On a whim one day last August, I took the subway to Coney Island. I believe it is the happiest place in NYC on a hot summer day and missed visiting it in 2020. Viewing and photographing the crowded beach from my perch, it felt like stepping into the past and is the only time in almost two years where everything seemed “normal” if only briefly. It was a great day. Even the long subway ride seemed like an adventure instead of a chore.
